Dealers, experts, and service providers
gathered in Las Vegas
Las Vegas, Nevada, May 10, 2006
– Dealers, experts,
and service providers gathered in Las Vegas to hear nationally recognized speakers
and to interact during a three-day educational conference
exclusively for buy here, pay here dealers which ended
today. “This was the
largest event in buy here, pay here history, with a record number
of dealer attendees this year,” said Ken Shilson, CPA and
Conference Chairman for the National Alliance of Buy Here Pay Here
Dealers (NABD).
Apparently, dealers responded to our suggestion to “Come Grow With
Us”.
More than 1600
registered for this 8th annual event, which focused on
vehicle remarketing, legal and regulatory compliance, tax and
accounting developments, capital, advertising, and new
technology. The
program featured more than 60 speakers, including David Walsh, a
leading automotive trainer and consultant, who discussed ways
dealers can become better managers and leaders; attorneys Keith
Whann and Tom Hudson who provided insights into all the latest
legal issues; Mike Linn, NIADA Director, who discussed regulatory
developments; Tom Kontos, Adesa Economist; and Ken Shilson, CPA,
who reviewed the latest used vehicle market outlook and industry
trends. Bruce Thompson
of Lanelogic, (powered by VB2), and Jim Currey of
Manheim Auctions, discussed vehicle remarketing alternatives, and
NCM Moderator, Mike Moore, shared, “Best Twenty Groups Ideas.”
Interactive
sessions on best collection practices were led by Fran Chatman and
Cereice Earp, two of the industries best collection
specialists. Ingram
Walters, the Conference Master of Ceremonies and owner of Griffin’s
Credit Quick, and Chip Perry, Chief Executive Officer of
AutoTrader.com, discussed ways to reach the next level.
A capital markets
panel featuring leading capital providers from AFC, Car Financial
Services, Credit Acceptance Corporation, Leedom Financial Services,
MAFS, Surge Capital, Texas Capital Bank, and Sterling Financial
Services discussed lines of credit, floor plans, note sales, and
other financing products.
More than 100
sponsors participated in a “sold out” exhibit hall which featured
two cocktail receptions and a luncheon. The program also included vendor
presentations by major sponsors covering capital, software, service
contracts, payment devices, vehicle remarketing, sales and lead
management, and the internet.
Other show
highlights included a presentation on “Spending Your BHPH
Advertising Dollars Wisely,” by Cox Communications and Dakota Video
& Post. Used Car
News provided an “Industry Outlook” presentation.
Best operating
practices were discussed during two interactive panel discussions
featuring leading operators with portfolios of over and under $5
million. “These panels
really gave dealers some excellent tips on how to operate more
profitably in a very challenging environment,” Shilson said.
